NBA Rumors: Blockbuster Heat-Cavs deal sends Kevin Love to Miami, Dragic and Winslow to Cleveland

Kevin Love is reportedly on his way to the Miami Heat, claims NBA rumors recently. The other players involved are point guard Goran Dragic and forward Justise Winslow, who will land with the Cleveland Cavaliers.

At this point, this is just a pipedream as both the Heat and Cavaliers are looking at different priorities entering the 2016-2017 NBA Season.

Cleveland is the defending champion so they want to retain the core, which includes Love, in the upcoming season. Miami is in some sort of “rebuilding mode” with the departure of Dwyane Wade (to Chicago Bulls via free agency) and Chris Bosh (to retirement because of medical issues).

It’s unlikely as well that Pat Riley, the team president of the Heat, wants to help rival LeBron James and the Cavs in their title defense. Giving up the young prospect Winslow and a starting point guard in Dragic are just much for an aging Love, who struggled with his role in Cleveland for most of the last season.

The Heat needs a starting power forward and Love appears to be a good option. But in this trade, they give up two starters and they’d be left with just Hassan Whiteside and Love as their star players.

The Cavaliers could use Winslow, who is known for his versatility and defense. He’d be a good fit alongside the athletic LeBron James or have an off-the-bench role in Cleveland.

Getting Dragic also don’t make much sense for the Cavs because they already have All-Star Kyrie Irving at the starting PG position. Dragic will be wasted coming off the bench in Cleveland although a starting small backcourt of Dragic-Irving will be interesting but will struggle defensively.

Via ESPN Trade Checker, a Kevin Love for Goran Dragic and Justise Winslow deal works under NBA trade rules. But these are just NBA rumors with not many legs and unrealistic at this point.
