Kevin Durant is reportedly “blown away” after meeting for four hours with representatives from the Los Angeles Clippers. NBA rumors entering free agency state that Durant will consider only six teams this summer and one of those teams are the Clippers.
The four-hour meeting between Durant and the Clippers was reported by Chris Broussard of ESPN.
When 2016 free agency officially opened July 1, reports out of Los Angeles are that the Clippers will pitch the “Big 4” idea to Durant. The Clips feature stars Chris Paul, DeAndre Jordan and Blake Griffin already and the possible addition of the OKC superstar will make them one of the powerhouse teams in the tough Western Conference.
It’s not clear how the Clippers can acquire Kevin Durant. The team has to let go of some of their players via trade to make salary cap space in signing the OKC superstar, who is expected to demand a full max contract.
The Clippers can also attempt a sign-and-trade involving one of Griffin, Jordan or Paul but that will not make sense if their pitch to Durant will be to form a “superteam” in Los Angeles.
Durant’s other free agency landing spots include his own team, the Thunder and Clippers plus the Golden State Warriors, San Antonio Spurs, Miami Heat, Boston Celtics, according to NBA rumors.
The 27-year-old Durant remains one of the top overall players in the league. He averaged 28.2 points, 8.2 rebounds, 5.0 assists and 1.0 steals for the Thunder in the 2015-2016 regular season.
Kevin Durant, who helped OKC in the 2016 NBA Playoffs where they lost to rivals Warriors in seven games in the Western Conference Finals, remains the top headline in free agency NBA rumors at this point of the offseason.
