The Sacramento Kings have been sold to a Sacramento based group. Software billionaire Vivek Ranadive has agreed to purchase 65 percent of the Kings from the Maloof family. Ranadive would pay the Kings $347.75 million if he buys 65 percent of the team. The Kings franchise valuation is $535 million, which is an NBA record, according to NBA.com.

Ranadive is currently a part-owner of the Golden State Warriors, but he is going to sell his stake in that team. He was worked with government officials to get more than $250 million in funding for a new Kings arena. Ranadive will be the first majority NBA owner of Indian descent, according to NBA.com.

The Maloofs have owned the Kings since 1998. According to ESPN, they had hoped to sell the stake to a Seattle group of businessmen that offered $406 million for their shares. The Maloofs then proposed selling a 20 percent stake to the Seattle group.

The Kings were talking about moving to Seattle. However, the King’s request to move to Seattle was rejected by the NBA’s Board of Governors in a 22-8 vote on Wednesday, according to NBA.com.

An official announcement on the Kings sale is expected to happen on Friday.

Andrew Wiggins, the number one prospect player in a talented high school recruiting class, has committed to play for the Kansas Jayhawks.

Wiggins, who is a 6-8 forward from Huntington, West Virginia averaged 23.4 points and 11.2 rebounds per game. In Bleacher Report, Wiggins is described as the next LeBron James or Kevin Durant.

The Jayhawks are losing all five starters from last season. This includes redshirt freshman standout Ben McLemore, who averaged 15.9 points and 5.0 rebounds per game, according to USA Today Sports. McLemore is projected to be the second overall pick in the upcoming NBA draft.

With the recruitment of Wiggins, it gives the Jayhawks an athletic player to replace McLemore, who was the star player on the team’s roster last season.

Wiggin’s decision to choose the Jayhawks over John Calipari’s Kentucky Wildcats proves that he is looking to make a name for himself.

The Jayhawks have the No. 2 top recruiting class in 2013 behind Calipari’s. Of the top ten recruiting high school players, Calipari has been able to recruit five of them.

Jayhawks’ coach Bill Self will be looking to add other players to supplement the top player in the recruiting class.

“We need to have a great recruiting class because we lost so many guys on a team that did pretty well this year,” Self said.

Carmelo Anthony was not going to let his team lose on Thursday night against the Pacers as he willed the Knicks to an 85-75 victory to bring the series to 3-2.

Anthony poured in 28 points along with six rebounds, according to NBA.com. Although the Knicks did not have a great shooting night, they amped up the intensity and defense, forcing the Pacers into 19 turnovers in the game.

The Knicks also got some support off the bench. J.R. Smith and Chris Copeland each had 13 points. Smith had been on a terrible cold streak prior to the game and it seems like he may be getting his offense going again.

Knicks head coach Mike Woodson was pleased with how his team played in this elimination game saying, “I was totally impressed because we met the challenge. I think as a coach you come into games like this and you want to see who’s going to step up and make plays, and I thought we did that tonight. We were the better team in terms of doing that,” reported the Associated Press.

The Pacers got a solid performance out of Paul George who recorded 23 points, six rebounds, and six assists. David West also added 17 points and 10 rebounds. Indiana was without guard George Hill due to a concussion.

The Knicks will need to continue to battle as they go back to Indiana for game 6 on Saturday.

A day after the Oklahoma City Thunder lost to the Memphis Grizzlies, Kevin Durant said that no year is ever wasted, even if you don’t win a NBA championship.

“Nothing’s ever a wasted year for me. It’s basketball. I’ve grown so much as a man since the beginning of the season,” Durant said.

Though players are entitled to their own opinions, Durant’s views are very different from Kobe Bryant’s.

After the Los Angeles Lakers were swept in the 2011 playoffs by the Dallas Mavericks, Bryant said that if the team doesn’t win a championship, then it is a wasted year of his life, according to ESPN.com.

However, Durant doesn’t really care what people think of his philosophy saying that he isn’t Michael Jordan, Lebron James, or Bryant and that he shouldn’t compromise himself and his beliefs.

The Thunder were not the same team after losing Russell Westbrook to a knee injury. The team went 3-6 in the playoffs and Durant showed no signs of frustrations after losing pivotal games, according to News Oklahoma.

Though the Thunder may have had the best record in the Western Conference, the team’s season ended. Last year, they reached the NBA Finals.

Durant may stand by his beliefs and opinion, but at 24, he hasn’t won an NBA title yet. Bryant won his first title when he was 21.

After defeating the Oklahoma City Thunder Wednesday night, the Memphis Grizzlies are headed to their first franchise Western Conference Finals.

“This is the first time, so it definitely means a lot. I’m happy, but we’ve still got work to do,” Zach Randolph said. “I want to win a ring.”

The Grizzlies not only defeated the Thunder in five games, but they showed that they are a team that is capable of winning games with no superstar.

Prior to advancing to the Western Conference Finals, the Grizzlies only won one postseason series, according to the Associated Press. In three other playoff appearances that the Grizzlies appeared in, they were swept.

The Grizzlies have gotten this far in the playoffs after losing RudyGay and reserves Marreese Speights, Wayne Ellington, Josh Selby and Hamed Haddad. They fell 0-2 to the Los Angeles Clippers in the first round of the playoffs, but have showed resiliency and discipline.

Grizzlies coach Lionel Hollins took over a struggling Memphis team and has since then transformed the Grizzlies into a championship contender, according to Fox Memphis.

In order to land one of the NBA’s superstar free agents this summer, Dirk Nowitzki will be planning to take a major pay cut.

“At this point of my career, it’s all about competing and winning,” Nowitzki said Thursday.

The Dallas Mavericks haven’t been the same since their NBA championship in 2011. Since then, the team lost key players Jason Terry, Tyson Chandler, and Jason Kidd.

Now with free agents Chris Paul and Dwight Howard in the market, the Mavericks and Nowitzki are optimistic that they will be able to land either player, according to the Dallas News.

“I don’t think it’s changed much from 3 weeks ago,” Nowitzki said. “We’d love to get one of the big guys. It’s going to be tough to get them out of the situation they’re in.”

Nowitzki will be making $22.7 million in the final year of his contract, which is the highest salary than every NBA player except for Kobe Bryant, according to ESPN.com.

The Mavericks will have to tinker with Nowitzki’s contract, but owner Mark Cuban isn’t afraid to make things happen.

When the Mavericks won the franchise’s first NBA championship, Cuban used the money he saved from Nowitzki’s current contract to acquire Tyson Chandler from the Charlotte Bobcats.

Thought the Mavericks are coming off a frustrating season, they are always in the mix to draw players in. Cuban will have another opportunity to lure in a superstar to play with Nowitzki.

David Beckham, one of the biggest faces in soccer, announced his retirement from the sport on Thursday. He plans to end his career at the end of Paris Saint-Germain’s season.

“I’m thankful to PSG for giving me the opportunity to continue but I feel now is the right time to finish my career, playing at the highest level, “ Beckham said in a statement on Thursday.

In a career that began in the early 1990s, the 38-year-old made a name for himself by playing for Manchester United, Real Madrid, the Los Angeles Galaxy and, finally, PSG. According to the Associated Press, Beckham won six Premier League titles with Manchester United along with one Champions League, two FA Cups and the Intercontinental Cup. He also won titles with Real Madrid and the Galaxy.

Beckham also captained the English squad for over 50 games and “several” World Cups, according to NPR.

Off the field, Beckham is known for his celebrity status and influence in Hollywood. Married to a former Spice Girl Victoria Beckham, Beckham has made headlines for his friendships with the British royals and Tom Cruise. The movie, Bend It Like Beckham, was inspired by the British star’s famous free kick style.

The Memphis Grizzlies continued their rough and rugged style of play to defeat the Oklahoma City Thunder Wednesday night 88-84 and advance to the team’s first Western Conference finals appearance.

Zach Randolph led the fifth-seeded Grizzlies in game five as he scored 28 points and grabbed 14 rebounds, according to NBA.com. Mike Conley also came up big for Memphis nearly notching a triple double with 13 points, 11 assists, and 7 rebounds.

Memphis used their swarming defense to disrupt Kevin Durant who was held to 21 points on 5-21 shooting and committed seven turnovers. This was Durant’s third-worst performance of his playoff career.

Grizzlies head coach Lionel Hollins reflected on the win saying, “We’re trying to do something really special. We want to go as far as we can go. To get there, we had to go through Oklahoma City. And now, we have to get through either Golden State or San Antonio to get further,” reported the Associated Press.

The Thunder were favorites to get back to the finals until point guard Russell Westbrook went down with a knee injury. Kevin Durant made a valiant effort to single-handedly push his team to the next round but the defense of Memphis proved to be too formidable.

Although this is the most success this Grizzlies team has ever had they are clearly not satisfied and look to continue their grit-and-grind style into the Western Conference finals.

Brett Favre and the Green Bay Packers will reunite in the near future. Packers CEO Mark Murphy said on Tuesday that Favre’s career will be celebrated at Lambeau Field in the near future.

“We want to have (Favre) back in the family” Murphy told Fox Sports Wisconsin, according to Sporting News. “We’re hopeful to have him back in the fold and get him back involved in the organization soon.”

Aaron Rodgers, who replaced Favre as the Packers quarterback after Favre was traded to the New York Jets, has great respect for Favre. He believes that it’s important for the Packers to honor Favre. Favre is still one of the most popular and beloved players in Packers history. Rodgers and Favre presented the Comeback Player of the Year award to Peyton Manning earlier this year.

Murphy said last year that the Packers hoped to retire Favre’s number four jersey at some point.

“It’s got to be the right time for him and us for that ceremony to happen” Murphy said on Tuesday, ESPN.com reports.

In 2008, the Packers traded Favre to the Jets in favor of Rodgers. A year later he signed with the Minnesota Vikings, the Packers rival. Favre told ESPN’s Mike Tirico last September that he had begun to get over any hard feelings that he had toward the Packers, where he won three MVP awards and a Super Bowl title, according to ESPN.com.

The New York Rangers crushed the Washington Capitals in Game 7, 5-0, while the Boston Bruins squeaked past the Toronto Maple Leafs, 5-4, in their Game 7 matchup Monday night. The Rangers and Bruins will square off for Game 1 of their Eastern Conference semifinal matchup Thursday night in Boston.

The Rangers showed great tenacity, climbing out of a 0-2 hole against the Capitals. The Capitals were one of the hottest teams coming into the playoffs, but with focus, toughness and the brilliance of Henrik Lundqvist in net, the Rangers were able to persevere and discard the Capitals.

Lundqvist was the difference in the series, registering a shutout in two straight elimination games. When asked about his performance, Lundqvist said, “You try to be active to find pucks. There are definitely bodies in front of you, but if you’re active and you try to find the puck, it’s a lot easier,” reports New York Daily News.

The Bruins limped into the playoffs, and then seemed to get back on track when they took a commanding three-games-to-one lead over the Maple Leafs, before surrendering two straight games and being forced into a Game 7. After falling down 4-1 to the Maple Leafs in the third period, Boston showed resolve – similar to what we saw from New York – and battled back to force overtime and eventually win the game on a Patrice Bergeron goal.

According to ESPN, the Bruins made history by becoming the first team to overcome a three-goal deficit in Game 7 of a Stanley Cup playoff game.

Both teams are tough, both teams are resilient and both teams are members of the Original Six. Let the historical rivalry renew.
