Florida State AD Randy Spetman steps down
Randy Spetman is stepping down as the Florida State athletic director effective immediately.
The Orlando Sentinel reports that school president Eric Barron announced the move. He added that Vanessa Fuchs, Florida States senior associate athletic director will step in on an interim basis and Spetman will continue to support the program in an advisory role.
“Randy will continue to advance the athletics department’s strategic plan by working with a full range of stake holder to gather additional information that will help shape the future of Florida State athletics,” Barron said in a statement posted on ESPN.
Spetman has dealt with a multitude of issues during his tenure at Florida State including the dismissal of beloved legend Bobby Bowden. The move caused a lot of uproar and backlash for the Seminoles and Spetman in particular. After moving past the dismissal of Bowden Spetman calmed a lot of the negative chatter surrounding the program due in no small part to the hiring and success of new head coach Jimbo Fisher.
In a statement posted on the USA Today, Barron said, “I don’t have a negative thing to say about Randy Spetman. I have a lot of respect for him. We agreed that this is a good time to transition.”
