Fog delays play at Torrey Pines
Farmers Insurance Open was suspended until Monday due to heavy fog all day Saturday.
The fog lifted off for just enough time for the first tee group to tee off and walk off because the fog rolled back in. According to Fox News, the 10th tee group finished their hole. The three were John Mallinger, Robert Garrigus and Hunter Mahan.
Sunday at 10 a.m. the third round will resume and will most likely finish on Monday.
“We’re going to play golf all day until dark and then when it gets dark, we’ll suspend play. We’ll come back Monday morning and finish the championship if the weather cooperates. That is the plan.
“Usually with over 78 players (left after the second round) we make a cut after the third round, but we’re not going to make a cut. We’re not going to re-pair. We’d lose too much time,” the PGA Tour’s vice president of rules and competition, Mark Russell said, reports Reuters.
Tiger Woods is not bothered by this delay one bit. He said that he understands that this happens and he will just have to be ready Sunday.
Billy Horschel, on the other hand, was shocked that the fog stayed around all day. In response to being asked what he did on Saturday, he said, “Eat a couple of times, sit down, relax, chit chat, come out here and putt, chit chat with everyone else. Just try to stay loose. It’s all I’ve done, really.”
