Former Boise State DE transfers to Baylor

Stand-out freshman All-American defensive end Sam Ukwuachu, who was released by Boise State in May, has transferred to Baylor and will suit up for the Bears in 2014.

According to an article on the Baylor athletic website head coach Art Briles announced Ukwuachu would be joining the team.

Ukwuachu played in every game last season for Boise State recording 4.5 sacks and was named to the Freshman All-American Team. The defensive end then ran into trouble shortly after his freshman campaign and head coach Chris Peterson dismissed him for violating unspecified team rules.

In a statement posted on Sicemsports.com Ukwuachu said, “It’s a done deal, and I’m reporting June 3. Baylor was my best option.”

He added, “It’s close to home. It’s a good program. [Boise St. Chris Petersen] really helped me to where I wanted to go. Things just didn’t work out up there.”

The defensive end will have to sit out the 2013 season due to NCAA transfer rules but will join the Bears the next season. This will add depth to the Baylor defensive front that will loose seniors Terrance Lloyd and Chris McAllister to graduation after next season.
