Gabe Carimi traded to Tampa Bay Buccaneers
The Chicago Bears’ first-round draft pick Gabe Carimi will be a Tampa Bay Buccaneer.
The Bears made the trade in turn for having a sixth-round pick in the 2014 draft, according to ESPN Chicago.
In mid-April, Carimi was a part of a minicamp but didn’t participate in the offseason program. Instead, he worked out with former Pro Bowl lineman LeCharles Bentley, the Chicago Tribune reported.
In Carimi’s second week as a rookie, he suffered a severe knee injury and was required to go through surgery, one that he’s still recovering from. Carimi was benched but in 2012, he was able to start 10 times as a right guard with the offensive line, ESPN Chicago stated.
“He’s hungry to prove people wrong,” Bentley told the Chicago Tribune. “It has taken time and work for him to get to this point mentally, and physically he is light years from where he was.”
According to ESPN Chicago, Carimi is in line to earn a base salary of 1,016,458 this year.
