Giants Pablo Sandoval placed on 15-day DL
Pablo Sandoval of the San Francisco Giants has been placed on the 15-day disabled list due to a strain in his left foot.
According to The Associated Press, the third baseman was held-out before the Giants faced off with the National League rival Pittsburgh Pirates. Nick Noonan, who will be re-called from the team’s triple-A team in Fresno, California, will replace Sandoval in the lineup.
In a statement posted on MLB.com, the World Series MVP said, “I’ve been through this situation. You want to try to be healthy but something’s going to happen. It’s part of the game. You have to keep focused and positive to get better every day.”
Sandoval is currently hitting .289 with eight home runs, helping the Giants hold on to second place in the National League West behind Arizona. This injury, however, could slow the team’s offensive production as Sandoval is leading the team with 37 RBIs.
It should be interesting to see if the loss of Sandoval will hurt the Giants as they will look to catcher Buster Posey, second baseman Marco Scutaro and right fielder Hunter Pence to step up in his absence.
