Hunter hits 300th career home run as Tigers beat the Twins
Torii Hunter’s baseball career started in Minnesota. He hit is first home run with the Twins and on Father’s Day he hit a milestone home run in the city where it all began.
Hunter hit his 300th career home run on Sunday as the Detroit Tigers beat the Minnesota Twins 5-2. Hunter also added a double and 3 runs batted in for the Tigers in the victory.
Hunter played for the Twins from 1997-2007 and hit the first 192 home runs of his career with the Twins, according to MLB.com.
“It’s special,” Hunter said. “Just hitting my first home run in old Tigers Stadium against the Tigers with the Twins, to hit 300 against the Twins in the Tigers uniform at Target Field — it’s special. It’s kind of weird, but it’s special. I’m glad I got that monkey off my back.”
Hunter’s home run was the third of the season and his first since May 26 when he hit a home run against the Twins, according to ESPN.com.
