Jets’ Geno Smith era could start sooner
Jets fans get ready for a bumpy ride because a confident Geno Smith may be taking the stage sooner than expected.
In April, when second round pick Smith set foot on the stage at Radio City Music Hall, he predicted that his New York Jets would make the playoffs this season. This sounds eerily familiar to the past predictions of head coach Rex Ryan. Smith also said shortly after that, that he can be a franchise quarterback. Jets fans had better hope he is ready for that kind of role.
Smith’s first test would probably come on Sunday when former Jet Darrelle Revis and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers pay a visit to MetLife Stadium. According to Newsday, Smith would probably be named the Game 1 starter due to Mark Sanchez’s shoulder injury, which he suffered against the Giants two weeks ago. Also, because of the injury, the Jets signed six-year vet Brady Quinn just in case Sanchez needs to be off the field for a while, The Associated Press reported.
”If my chance is Sunday, I’m going to go out there with the intent to lead my team to victory and that’s just the way it is,” Smith said Monday.”I’m always going to play like that, be aggressive. I’m never going to hesitate, never going to shy away from anything and just go out there and play ball.”
This is something fans like to hear from a rookie NFL quarterback. Let’s hope he’s ready, it should be fun to watch.
