Josh Smith agrees on a deal with Pistons
Free agent forward Josh Smith and Detroit Pistons have reached a contract agreement.
According to Fox Sports, the deal is a four-year contract worth $56 million. Smith will earn $14 million per year.
Smith will move to small forward after playing nine seasons at power forward for the Atlanta Hawks. Smith joins a young front court which includes forward Greg Monroe and center Andre Drummond.
According to Yahoo! Sports, Smith was the Pistons top priority this season as other teams were waiting on Dwight Howard’s decision to be made. The Pistons general manager Joe Dumars and head coach Mo Cheeks held a meeting with Smith and his agent shortly after midnight on the day the free agency period started.
Smith, 27, is one of the most exciting players. He averaged 17.5 points per game, 8.4 rebounds per game, and 4.2 assists for the Hawks last season. Smith is one of the best shot blockers in the game. Smith’s career average of 2.1 blocks is fourth among active players and 20th in NBA history.
