After going through several surgeries, quarterback Colin Kaepernick is not expected to join the San Francisco 49ers on their mini-camp this week.

Kaepernick injured his non-throwing shoulder during the 49er’s game against the Green Bay Packers last October 4, 2015. He had to go through shoulder, thumb and knee surgeries during off-season that took months for him to recover.

He has also lost a lot of his strength after the surgery, and according to a report by Matt Brows, Kaepernick is planning to stay at Santa Clara with the 49ers’ conditioning and strength staff so that he can regain his form.

Although he has been showing up on workouts and has already thrown his passes during warm-ups last Thursday, questions are still hanging whether Kaepernick would be medically cleared for the mandatory mini-camp. But, according to NFL media insider Ian Rappoport’s tweet, Kaepernick won’t be cleared for the 49er’s minicamp this week, and that  “[t]he hope is closer to training camp.”

49ers’ offensive coordinator Curtis Modkins also said that they are still not sure when Kaepernick will be cleared for practice, and they want to make sure that the quarterback is 100% before being allowed to practice again.

“Whenever they say Colin’s healthy, I’m sure he’ll be there. He’s around us, he’s in the meetings, he’s doing a great job. It’s not up to me when he’s released, so we’ll see.” said Modkins.

Kaepernick has not given any statements about his clearance yet and is set to talk to the media after he is allowed to train again.
