Kobe Bryant reaches 30,000 career points during win over Hornets
It was a historic day for the Los Angeles Lakers, as star guard Kobe Bryant surpassed 30,000 career points in a win against the New Orleans Hornets. The final score was 103-87.
Bryant entered the game with 29,987 points. At the end of the second quarter, Bryant drove to the basket, did a mini stutter step along with a cross over, and hit an easy floater. This play gave Bryant 30,001 points in his career.
By hitting the 30,000 milestone, Bryant joins other NBA legends, Wilt Chamberlin (31,419 points), Michael Jordan (32,292 points), Karl Malone (36,928 points) and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (38,387 points), according to The Los Angeles Times.
Among these NBA players, Bryant is the youngest at 34 years old.
Currently, Bryant is leading the NBA by averaging 27.9 points per game.
At the half, the Lakers trailed 48-47, but in the third quarter, they started on a 13-0 run. In the fourth, the Lakers led as much as 20 points, reports Sporting News NBA.
Along with Bryant’s 29 points, Dwight Howard scored 18 points and 5 blocks. Antwan Jamison scored 15, Metta World Peace scored 11, and Chris Duhon had 10 assists in the win.
