Kobe Bryant sits down with Jimmy Kimmel
Kobe Bryant answered questions from comedian Jimmy Kimmel for an hour on Thursday night at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles.
“People just don’t understand how obsessed I am with winning,” Bryant said when speaking on his quest for a sixth championship ring. “I just want that jewelry.”
Bryant is on the journey back from a season-ending Achilles tear in April. There were reports that he would be back for the season opener, but now he’s not so sure.
“I don’t know if I’ll be ready for opening night,” he told Kimmel. “I really don’t know. I know I’m really, really ahead of schedule.”
Bryant also spoke about workout he had with the Clippers before he was drafted. “I had a really fun and good workout with the Clippers,” he revealed. “They told me, ‘This is the best workout we’ve ever seen.’”
But the Clippers figured Kobe was just too young, explaining, “‘We want to turn things around with our organization and we felt like if we drafted a 17-year-old kid, the city of L.A. wouldn’t take us seriously.’”
That has proved to be a serious mistake, as Bryant has gone on to help the Los Angeles Lakers organization win five championships in seven Finals appearances. He has had a career that places him only behind Michael Jordan in the rankings of shooting guards throughout the history of the NBA.
The interview took place during the Kobe-Up-Close event, hoted by the Kobe and Vanessa Bryant Foundation, which works to “strengthen communities through educational and cultural enrichment opportunities.”
