Asian-American guard Jeremy Lin congratulates Chinese superstar Yi Jianlian after signing a one-year deal with the Los Angeles Lakers this week. The 7-foot center/power forward caught the attention of the Lakers’ brass after an impressive performance in Rio Olympics 2016.
General manager Mitch Kupchak announced that Yi Jianlian will be officially joining the Los Angeles Lakers.
“We’re excited to have a player of his worldwide accomplishments,” said Kupchak. “We look forward to bringing him to training camp and hopefully having him make an impact on our team.”
After hearing the news, Brooklyn Nets guard Jeremy Lin posted a message on Twitter for Yi Jianlian.

Jeremy Lin became part of the Los Angeles Lakers in 2014 before moving to Charlotte Hornets and now with the Brooklyn Nets. Meanwhile, Yi Jianlian aims to remove his title of being an NBA draft bust with his return in the league as a Lakers.
The 28-year-old power forward was selected sixth overall in the 2007 NBA draft by the Milwaukee Bucks. Unfortunately, Jianlian did not live up to expectations in his five-year stints in the NBA. He was forced to head back to China and continued his basketball career with the Guandong Tigers.
Ryan Ward of Lakers Nation compared Jeremy Lin’s journey to Yi Jianlian. As of now, there are few Asians who have successfully made an impact in the NBA. Lin went undrafted in 2010 and worked hard to earn a spot in the league.
Jeremy Lin successfully made an impact in the 2011-2012 NBA season with the New York Knicks creating the famous name ‘Linsanity’. If Lin continues to play with the Lakers, he will be playing with two other Asians – Yi Jianlian and Jordan Clarkson.
Jeremy Lin once dreamt of playing in an NBA team mostly composed of Asian players. However, it seems like the idea will take years to happen since he is now tasked to revive the Brooklyn Nets.
