Lionel Messi seals Barcelona’s 3-2 win over Spartak Moscow
Barcelona forward Lionel Messi scored two goals in a ten minute span to lead his team to a 3-2 win over Spartak Moscow in their opening Champions League match.
21-year-old Cristian Tello opened the scoring for Barcelona in the 14th minute before Moscow leveled the match at 1-1 following a Dani Alves own goal in the 29th minute.
Moscow took a 2-1 lead in the 59th when Romulo put the visitors ahead, shocking the home fans at the Nou Camp who had not seen their team lose in 17 straight European games, according to Reuters.
But, before Moscow could pull off the upset, Messi tied the affair in the 71st minute off a pass from Tello and then put his side ahead in the 80th with a header off a cross from teammate Alexis Sanchez.
With the win, Barcelona now sits atop Group G after Celtic and Benfica drew 0-0, according to the AP.
Up next Barcelona will travel to Portugal to take on Benfica, while Moscow will host Celtic, with both games taking place on Tuesday, October 2.
