‘Lucifer’ Season 2 Spoiler: Tom Ellis-Lauren German on screen love team to remain friends?

Lead actors Tom Ellis and Lauren German have been open to the possibility that their characters will develop a romantic relationship in Season 2 of the newbie hit series “Lucifer,” which is set to air this fall. However, showrunner Joe Henderson stated that they are very careful as to how that storyline will develop so as not to disrupt how they took off in the opening season.

Henderson tells TV Line that the friendship between Lucifer Morningstar played by Ellis and detective Chloe Decker played by German was first established in the initial season and they hope to maintain that friendship in check. He adds that he wants to explore more other combination with the show’s stars to draw more excitement as Season 2 progresses.

“The fun of it was giving Lucifer a true friend in the first season, and then the question is: Where does that go in Season2? How deep can a friendship get? Romance often comes with that, but we want to be very careful and make sure the friendship is the most important part…The biggest thing about Season 2 to me is we built this world, now let’s play with it. Let’s mix-and-match our characters a bit, let’s see how they play off each other…What I am very proud of is that we have this amazing cast, all of whom have chemistry with each other. Now it’s up to us to put them in situations where similar to the finale’s Chloe and Maze, we can see who else bounces off each other in ways we didn’t expect,” Henderson explained.

Aside from putting in check the budding emotional affair of Lucifer and Chloe, Henderson added that they are keeping German and Lesley-Ann Brandt, who plays Mazikeen a Confidante and a devoted ally of Lucifer Morningstar, in the balance in order to emotionally check the Prince of Darkness. He also tells that Rachel Harris, who plays Dr. Linda Martin, will also have more scenes in peeling off the personality of Lucifer while on earth.

“We intentionally kept them (German and Brandt) apart for a number of episodes because we wanted to get to that moment of the two women in Lucifer’s life, and to a certain extent ‘the angel and the devil on his shoulder,’ coming together to save him. What I like is these are two badass women, and for them to have a moment of mutual respect or at least mutual understanding, was the beginning of hopefully much more story to come…What I love about Dr. Linda is you get the balance of humor and emotional heft. You get fun scenes where she’s bantering with Lucifer, and you have scenes where she peels apart his emotions like an onion. When you have a tool like that, you need to use it as much as possible,” Henderson said.

Henderson further stated that Season 2 will be more on introducing Lucifer’s mom, although he adds that the comics do not tell much of his mother, they will have to do an extensive research based on mythology to be able to bring out the character of the mother who escaped Hell. From what mythology tells, the mother of Lucifer is the Goddess Asherah, who are a Semitic Mother Goddess and spouse of the Ugaritic El. Many modern scholars of ancient Israelite mythology suggest that she is the Queen of Heaven, she was the wife or spouse to the warrior god/sky god, Yahweh.

However, Henderson does not further give any information as to who will play the role of Lucifer’s mom. Rumors have it that Barbara Hershey is a strong contender to land the role, but both Fox and Henderson have not given any information.

“In the comics and common mythology, it’s really not something that’s been established, so this is us doing a little world building. This is us taking a step and exploring the answer to a question a lot of people never asked and staking our own claim. There are a lot of directions we can go and we’ve chosen one that we’re really excited about,” Henderson further explained.

As to how the storylines will develop, viewers must stay tuned for the airing of “Lucifer” Season 2 which hits the small screens this fall.

#Lucifer will be back with Season 2 before you know it.
