Manchester United Latest News: Mourinho laments lack of creativity

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has had a difficult September to contend with. His side has lost three consecutive matches and the Portuguese manager has faulted his team’s creativity.

Mourinho has spent $149.68 million in the transfer window this summer to bring in the likes of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Eric Bailly, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Paul Pogba. But despite this huge spending, the 53-year-old has lamented the lack of creativity after just eight games heading into the new season, as reported by Manchester Evening News.

Mkhitaryan, who arrived from Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund have started in only one match against Manchester City in which he was substituted at half-time. Pogba has struggled to justify his word record transfer fee and Ibrahimovic, who has netted five goals in seven games have failed to display his August form so far.

Manchester United have displayed an interest to sign Atletico Madrid sensation Antoine Griezmann next summer. However, their plans of signing the player could be dented as the La Liga side has received a transfer ban for 2017, according to BBC.

This has led Mourinho to consider former United academy graduate and current Leicester City midfielder Danny Drinkwater. United will approach the Foxes to sign the player in the upcoming winter transfer window in January, 2017, as reported by The Sun.

The 26-year-old former 2007 Youth Cup runners-up with United has recently signed a new contract with Leicester, which will keep him at the club until 2021. The player is a Manchester bred and born and his family still visits Old Trafford to watch Manchester United play.

“It was disappointing not to make the first-team. I was there from eight until I was 20 but you move on and you start again. United have changed manager and still got stuff to do to get back where they were. It is not a quick process.” Drinkwater said.

Manchester United is set to face Northampton on Wedesday’s EFL Cup tie. Mourinho is expected to rest key players in the match, which could include the likes of David de Gea, Paul Poba and Eric Bailly.
