Manchester United Transfer News: Bonucci decides future as Red Devils want defender

English Premier League (EPL) giant Manchester United wanted to sign an experienced center-back before the end of the summer transfer window. Leonardo Bonucci of Seria A club Juventus was the prime target for the Red Devils. However, the Old Trafford hierarchy was unable to acquire any significant profile in the position, aside from their four transfers of the summer.

United’s hope of chasing Bonucci next summer have received a significant blow after the Italy international decided to sign a contract extension with Juventus. Red Devils manager Jose Mourinho wanted to bring a solid towering center-back and losing out on the Italian will be a big set back to his future plans, according to Manchester Evening News.

The 29-year-old Bonucci was also chased by another Premier League club Chelsea this summer. However, the pursuit came to a failure after Paul Pogba decided to leave Turin for Manchester. The Italian champions are adamant that they will not let Bonucci broker a move out of the club. The Bianconeri wants to keep hold of the Italian trio of Giorgio Chiellini, Andrea Barzagli and Bonucci at the back as they chase their third Champions League trophy.

Meanwhile, United’s alternative options to Bonucci also seems to be running out as Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane has chosen to stay at the Spanish capital, rejecting the Red Devils. The 23-year-old however have mentioned that the link with United is flattering as they are a very big club, as reported by ESPN.
