Maurkice Pouncey apologizes for ‘Free Hernandez’ hats

Pittsburgh Steelers center Maurkice Pouncey apologized for wearing a hat in support of Aaron Hernandez, his former Florida Gator teammate, who was charged with the execution-style murder of Odin Lloyd.

Maurkice and his brother Mike, center for the Miami Dolphins, went out on the town in Miami, Saturday night, to celebrate their birthday, says USA Today. During their festivities, the two brothers decided to sport some interesting headgear.

Their “Free Hernandez” hats drew some ire as Hernandez’s murder charge has been the dark highlight of a very dim off-season for the NFL amidst many player arrests, and the horrors that Hernandez may have committed. Despite the fact that they were former teammates, Pouncey realized his choice of hat was not in good taste and apologized for his actions via Twitter:
