It is not easy trying to be Michael Jordan. Kobe Bryant may have done a splendid job trying to emulate him, even imitating his moves on the court with that fade-away jump shot and on-court mannerisms, but it’s still not that close. Let’s see how LeBron James does it, at least, in the fantasy world.
With Kobe Bryant retired from the game, LeBron James is perhaps the best active player to replace Michael Jordan’s role in Space Jam 2.
LeBron James and Michael Jordan’s playing styles may not be entirely similar, but the Cleveland Cavaliers leader’s aggressiveness and gravity-defying dunks make him half way close to tying Michael Jordan’s championship rings.
Even LeBron James said it himself when he spoke about the challenges of pursuing Jordan’s ghost when the NBA season opens.
The Charlotte Observer reported LeBron James saying, “My career is totally different than Michael Jordan’s. What I’ve gone through is totally different than what he went through.”
“What he did was unbelievable, and I watched it unfold. I looked up to him so much. I think it’s cool to put myself in position to be one of those great players, but if I can ever put myself in position to be the greatest player, that would be something extraordinary.”
Not only will he try to be as great, or to surpass Jordan on the court, he will also star in Space Jam 2 with filmmaker Justin Lin. When Jordan starred in the first movie it turned out to be the highest grossing basketball film of all-time.
Somebody must have forgot to remind LeBron James that Michael Jordan hates to be compared with somebody else.
When asked who he wanted to replace him in the movie, Michael Jordan unsurprisingly didn’t pick James. He chose Blake Griffin. Who would’ve thought of that?
Is Michael Jordan intimidated by LeBron James’ dedication to be the best? That’s highly doubtful.
But we know that Blake Griffin can throw monstrous dunks too, and that Jordan’s Brand also sponsors him, according to CBS Sports. He also has some acting experience with the short film Flight of the Griffin along with other film appearances.
Incidentally, he also starred in The Live Read of Space Jam with Blake Griffin.
Michael Jordan became the best by distancing himself from the rest, to be his own unique identity. Perhaps that’s why his legacy remains unparalleled up to this day.
