Mike Wallace reports to Steelers camp
Wide Receiver Mike Wallace showed up to Pittsburgh Steelers’ facilities on Tuesday morning. A restricted free agent, he had not signed his one-year contract for approximately $2.7 million yet.
No teams showed interest in taking Wallace during the offseason, and with only one preseason game left he decided to return to Pittsburgh. His teammates missed his presence during the first few weeks
“[...] We’ve missed his personality and we’ve missed what he brings to the table,” fellow receiver Emmanual Sanders told the Associated Press.
According to the same article, the team said they would not negotiate a long-term contract before the season started if he did not report to camp. They also said they would not negotiate once the season starts, which means they have until Sept. 9.
More teammates, like Sanders, are looking forward to practicing with Wallace again.
“This group is extremely fast, extremely quick, and I think we have the opportunity to be very, VERY good offensively,” Ryan Clark told CBSSports. “I’m excited to get Mike back, but I’m also excited the way these other guys have been working. That’s the one thing we don’t want to overshadow. These guys have been working, and that only helps you when you get your No. 1 guy back.”
Wallace will start practice next week.
