MLB News: Alex Rodriguez announces retirement, becomes Yankees’ MLB adviser

Alex Rodriguez has been playing Major League Baseball (MLB) for a long time. He started his MLB playing career in 1994 and is already 41-years-old. This MLB news is not a surprise at all since he is at the right age to retire as a member of the New York Yankees. Alex is nicknamed “A-Rod” in his legendary career.

He started playing for the Yankees back in 2004 when he was traded by the Texas Rangers to New York. Alex had his memorable seasons while suiting up for the Yankees. At just his debut season, he has set a record for a number of home runs at 35, runs at 100 and runs batted in at 100 for seven straight seasons.

He has now joined an elite company of two people who does that same feat. The two people are Hall of Famers Babe Ruth and Jimmie Fox. It became three when A-Rod set the record for New York.

Moreover, Alex Rodriguez has met with Hal Steinbrenner before announcing his decision to retire according to David Waldstein of The New York Times. Steinbrenner is the principal owner of the Yankees. Hal might be the one that convinced the player to retire because Alex has been struggling in the field when he is playing. This could be attributed to the wear and tear that A-Rod’s body accumulated due to years of playing. In addition, the injuries have really taken a toll on him.

But Rodriguez denied in this MLB news that he had a conversation that far with Steinbrenner.

However, the owner proposes a plan for Alex to retire but remain on the team as an adviser and instructor. This should be another reason why Rodriguez decided to stop his playing career.

This statement capped the idea of the Yankees player retiring.

“The last four weeks have not been any fun. It’s been painful and embarrassing and awkward,” Rodriguez said.

Alex Rodriguez would still get the $27 million left on his contract until 2017 though he would not play for the Yankees anymore. This is a ton of money for the future Hall of Famer. Rodriguez is set to play his final game on August 12 against the Tampa Bay Rays.

This MLB news might be a sad moment for his fans but Alex’s final game should be a fun spectacle to watch.
