MLB suspends Giants George Kontos and Bruce Bochy
The MLB has announced that Giants pitcher George Kontos has been suspended for three games and manager Bruce Bochy for one.
ESPN announced the news after Wednesday night’s game where Kontos hit the Pirates Andrew McCutchen in the eighth inning after the umpire had issued warnings to both benches, a move the MLB has deemed intentional. Because both benches had been warned, Botchy also got the boot with Kontos, along with his one game suspension.
Four batters were hit during the Pirates 8-2 win including Pedro Alvarez and Marco Scutaro, who is now out indefinitely after x-rays on his finger were negative but revealed ligament damage.
According to CBS Sports, the Giants have moved Kontos to Triple-A and he will only be able to serve his suspension when he returns to the Giants organization. Many also believe the pitcher may seek an appeal process in which he will be held out of the Giants rotation until the hearing and decision is made.
This could mean bad news for a Giants team that is currently in third place behind Arizona and Colorado in the National League West and has piled up a multitude of injuries in the first half of the season.
