MLB Rumors: Giants to acquire Ryan Braun from Brewers?

The Milwaukee Brewers still have a shot at making the postseason but it would be a very difficult task with their 30-36 record after two and a half months of the 2016 season. According to the latest MLB rumors, the Brewers may be ready to trade star outfielder Ryan Braun to the San Francisco Giants.

Braun is currently having a good season with a .307 batting average with 11 home runs and 36 RBIs. However, the Brewers may be better off trading him and catcher Jonathan Lucroy for prospects to fully start their rebuilding process.

The Giants are reportedly one of the teams interested in acquiring Braun from Milwaukee, per Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports. It should be noted that both teams have started discussing a possible trade but it’s only in the very early stages.

However, Rosenthal pointed out some factors that will affect the value of the former NL MVP. Some of those factors are his age, contract, injury history and his suspension stemming from a failed performance-enhancing drug test in 2013.

Braun’s reputation has taken a hit ever since that failed PED test but he will still be a valuable player for a contending team like the Giants. He also cannot block a trade to San Francisco since its one of the six designated teams in his contract that can acquire him.

The Los Angeles Angels, Los Angeles Dodgers, Arizona Diamondbacks, San Diego Padres and Miami Marlins are the other teams that can trade for him besides the Giants. Bob Nightengale of USA Today noted that San Francisco is looking for an outfielder due to the injury to Hunter Pence.

Pence was recently placed on the disabled list because of torn hamstring that will cause him to miss at least two months. The Giants are currently atop the NL West standings with a 41-26 record, six games ahead of the Dodgers.
