Chris Weidman is due for a rematch with Luke Rockhold at UFC 199 on June 4 at The Forum in California in the United States and the stakes are already high, so much so that Weidman believes it’s a “do or die” situation for him.
“This is a do or die fight for me,” Weidman said in an interview with Inside MMA, reports Bloody Elbow. “I have to go out there and dominate him. This is my career on the line. This is everything. This is bigger than my Anderson Silva fights. I’m already starting my camp. I did a six-week camp last time and now I’m doing a 12-week camp this time. I’m just going to be very prepared.”
Luke Rockhold defeated Chris Weidman at UFC 194. The former Strikeforce middleweight champion became a two-promtion king after defeating Weidman.
Rockhold brutally defeated Weidman in the third and fourth round of the fight. It was the first defeat of his Octagon career. Weidman previously defeated the mighty Anderson Silvac in 2013. So it came as a shock to everyone when he got beaten by Rockhold.
This time, Weidman believes he has to defeat Rockhold to take back his position.
Meanwhile, Rockhold is not happy with the promotional poster of his upcoming fight. He took to Twitter to express his disappointment over the poster. “What you guys think of the #ufc199 poster? The hand in the middle baffles me, needs to go,” he tweeted.
Minutes later, he sent out another tweet expressing his unhappiness. But this time, his tweet was more of sarcasm. “Haha yep that’s it. RT @styIesclash: @LukeRockhold This one?,” he tweeted, along with the picture of the poster.
According to a report by Bloody Elbow, Rockhold has demanded the poster be changed. He is particularly not happy with a random fist being pointed at his chin.
Chris Weidman and Luke Rockhold’s rematch will be co-headlined by a bantamweight championship fight between Dominick Cruz and Urijah Faber.
