UFC president Dana White is turning out to be the spokesperson for Ronda Rousey, announcing a “super fight” in the making. White announced that Rousey is willing to take on Cris “Cyborg” Justino even at the 140 catch weight.
TMZ reported that White is working on a deal that would put both Rousey and Justino inside the Octagon. White acknowledges that Justino simply dominated Lina Lansberg at UFC Fight Night 95 held in Brazil. But teases that Rousey is back in her right mindset and has gotten nastier that ever.
MMA Fighting noted that Rousey is willing to meet Justino at the 140-pound catch weight. Since Justino has already indicated that she will not go down at the 135 Bantamweight division class as she is just fine with the catch weight. Justino even stated that she is willing again to go through with the weight cut so as long as she will fight the big names in the women’s division.
White explained that Rousey will have to get past Amanda Nunez at UFC 207 before talks of a super fight against Justino move further. A win by Rousey will put the fight against Justino as the biggest in women’s MMA.
And since Justino has begged for a Rousey fight, it seems that the UFC might grant her wish. While the UFC may see a Rousey-Justino fight to take place in the near future, White stressed that the UFC is still not bent in opening a 145-pound division for women.
“I don’t think so, I think, first, there aren’t enough 145-pound female fighters to start a 145-pound division,” White said. “There just isn’t. You know? Cyborg is this one girl floating out there who had that type of star power. She headlined Brazil for us.”
Both Rousey and Justino have dominated their respective weight division during their Strikeforce days. Rousey was fighting in the bantamweight while Justino was dominating the featherweight class.
Now that White has shed a light of doing the super fight, Rousey just needs to get back her bearing. As she does, Justino needs to start keeping her weight in check.
