Ronda Rousey or Miesha Tate? For Holly Holm, it does not matter but if she would have her way, she prefers the latter.
Holly Holm was 90 seconds away from retaining her women’s bantamweight title until an improbable rear-naked choke from Meisha Tate forced her to tap out giving the latter the submission win and the bantamweight title.
That defeat is a “bitter pill to swallow” that Holm would want to get out of the way right away.
In an article that appeared in MMA Fighting, Holm admitted her preference to fight Tate first before Rousey. However, she admits that everything will play out according to what the MMA wants. Right now, she is in a “wait and see” mode.
“You know if that’s the case then I think things will play out how they play out. I think other people will see that if she’s coming back now there’s a different motive.” Holm said in the MMA Hour.
Holm shocked the MMA universe when she knocked out then bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey at UFC 193. But after losing to Tate, Holm knows she has to let things fall as they may.
“If they put Rousey vs Tate on then I guess I’m just going to suck it up and wait for my opportunity. I’d to rematch both of them,” Holm said “Of course, if I had it my way, I’d like to be able to avenge my loss, because that’s the thing that put a bitter taste in my mouth right now.”
Whether she gets the title shot or not, Holm still does not want to remain idle one way or another. If things does not work out for her rematch with Tate, she still wants to be busy. “I still want to fight. I want to see if I can get the rematch for sure,” Holm explained “You know we’ll see what happens. I don’t know what they’ll want to put together.”
Given the uncertainty of Rousey’s timetable and knowing that Tate wants to fight sooner rather than later, Holly Holm is hoping that she can have her rematch at UFC 200 in July.
