UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor was reported to be mastering the art of Jiu-Jitsu as preparation for his rematch against Nate Diaz at UFC 202 on August 20 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
According to FloGrapping, Jiu-jitsu black belt Dillon Danis was training with the UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor in Dublin to help him prepare for his rematch with Nate Diaz. The 22-year-old fighter from New Jersey is a Jiu-jitsu black belt under the great Marcelo Garcia and trains under the 5-time IBJJF World champion and 4-time ADCC champion in Manhattan, New York.
“We’ve been in contact for a while and the time was just right. He’s one of my idols and you don’t pass up opportunities like this. He has one of the greatest minds and skill sets ever in the sport.” Danis said.
Recalling in the UFC 196, Conor McGregor seemed to be taking control of the match early in round 1. Nate Diaz’s face was covered with blood and everyone was only waiting for the referee to stop the match. However, everyone was surprised when Diaz managed to take down McGregor in round 2 and the Irish fighter did not know what to do. Diaz successfully defeated the UFC featherweight champion via rare naked choke in round 2.
This could be the reason why Conor McGregor wanted to master the art of jiu-jitsu. It can greatly help him especially in the situation when an opponent managed to take him down. McGregor is a great fighter. No one can take that away from him. However, there are things that he needs to improve in order to prevent his record from being trashed.
Still, it looks like Conor McGregor is trying to improve every day. It seems like the UFC 202 rematch between Conor McGregor and Nate Diaz will bring the MMA fans to another level of thrill and excitement.
