It’s almost been a decade since Michael Bisping got knocked out by Dan Henderson. The two MMA fighters fought in 2009 for the UFC Middleweight title eliminator (UFC 100), when Dan Henderson caught Bisping with a flush overhand right, as he was moving left toward it.
It was a fight that Michael Bisping claims “made” Dan Henderson, upon which he’d build on his career.
Michael Bisping stepped up his game earlier this year where he substituted for Chris Weidman, who was supposed to fight Luke Rockhold. As tough as he is, Bisping accepted that challenge with only 17 days notice.
He didn’t fail to impress, becoming the UFC Middleweight champion, and the first British UFC champion, as he knocked out Luke Rockhold in only one round.
That fight topped the MMA news and was considered one of the biggest upsets in UFC title fight history, considering Michael Bisping only had such a short span of time to prepare for it, and that he was submitted in their first fight 18 months prior.
Now time seems to come full circle as MMA News have Michael Bisping next fight with Dan Henderson scheduled on Oct. 8th at UFC 204.
With Dan Henderson set as the opponent for a Michael Bisping next fight, he will now have a chance to redeem himself, and avenge his loss in 2009.
But Bisping doesn’t see it that way. He believes they are now two totally different fighters, and could no longer be compared to the old versions of themselves.
The Michael Bisping next fight will be against an older Dan Henderson, who’s now 46 years old. He believes he’s now faster, stronger, and has a much-improved skillset.
According to a report by the Daily Star Michael Bisping said, “I made his career with that fight, but, after UFC 204, that will finally be eradicated.”
“He’s famous for just one thing – knocking me out in that fight. He caught me that night. Yes, that fight made him.”
“As I’ve got older, I have begun to understand the fight game better. I’m now delivering more power and I’m more aggressive. I feel I’m in my prime and in the best possible shape I can be to win this fight, which is something I know I can do.”
Dan Henderson is 9 years Bisping’s senior, and he may be much slower now, but he’s as tough as oppositions get. That’s one thing that needs to be acknowledged and respected right at the outset, or that right hand might get the same results in a Michael Bisping next fight.
MMA news has reported 20,000 tickets to the fight at the Manchester Arena sold out in six minutes.
