Former UFC women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey is expected to return to the Octagon in December. UFC president Dana White named Amanda Nunes and Cris Cyborg as Rowdy’s potential opponents when she is ready to fight again.
It will not take long before the MMA fans see Ronda Rousey in the Octagon again. According to Fox Sports, Rousey is currently in talk with the UFC about a possible fight before the end of the year. The potential fight is expected to take place on December 30 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
UFC president Dana White said in the past months that Ronda Rousey will be facing whoever is the champion of the time she is ready to fight again. In an interview with Globo, White admitted that he is aware that the fans wanted to witness the Rousey-Cyborg super fight.
However, the possibility of the super fight depends on the outcome of the fight of Ronda Rousey in December.
“I think in a perfect world, what everybody would love to see is Ronda vs. Cyborg, so everybody is waiting for — I’m sure Cyborg is, too — is the return of Ronda Rousey,” White said. “When she does return, I’m sure [Rousey is] gonna want to fight for the title, probably defend it and then maybe fight Cyborg. I don’t know. We’ll see how this thing plays out.”
Amanda Nunes is currently holding the UFC women’s bantamweight belt. With Rousey still sidelined at UFC 205, Nunes will be facing either Julianna Pena or Valentina Shevchenko for her first title defense.
Since Rousey was dethroned by Holly Holm at UFC 193, no female fighter has succeeded in defending the title. As of now, many people believe that Amanda Nunes will win her first title defense to get the chance to have her dream match against Rowdy.
If Ronda Rousey will succeed to reclaim the belt, there is a higher possibility that Cris Cyborg will be her next opponent.
