Nate Diaz vs Conor McGregor II almost a done deal

A Nate Diaz vs Conor McGregor II at UFC 200 is gaining momentum.

According to a report published in MMA Weekly, they are just ironing out some kinks and it is just a matter of the contracts being finalized. And while many are shaking their heads about the development, it seems that the rematch is likely to happen.

Ariel Helwani confirmed on The MMA Hour that the contracts are already out and that it is just a matter of signing for the fight to materialize.

“It is not happening at a natural 155 pounds, but at 170 pounds. The contracts are already out there and that is what they want,” Helwani said. “McGregor is obsessed with the idea that he lost to Diaz at 170 pounds, he feels like he should have won and wanted the same rules, the same circumstances, and same stipulations. He wants to do it again and prove that he is the better man.”

Aside from the report, Diaz himself was close to confirming that a rematch was close to coming together. “I lost plenty of decisions and I’ve never got a rematch, to this day. So that’s crazy. Conor got worked over and now they’re saying ‘rematch’ which makes sense,” Diaz said. “I understand that. I just think it’s funny because, it’s like, Jose Aldo didn’t get a rematch.”

Among those who are not thrilled about the possible rematch at UFC 200 is UFC lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos and featherweight contender Frankie Edgar.

UFC 196 was supposed to be Rafael dos Anjos putting his lightweight title on the line, but a foot injury forced the champion to withdraw from the match paving the way for the Diaz vs McGregor fight. In a tweet, dos Anjos claimed that the rematch makes no sense as he could beat both guys in one night.

Frankie Edgar, however, has been waiting for almost two years to have his shot at the featherweight belt, which McGregor currently holds. Edgar lost to then-featherweight champion Jose Aldo. Many people believe that Edgar deserves title fights after beating some of the best names in MMA such as BJ Penn, Urijah Faber, and Chad Mendes. In a tweet,  he dared McGregor to put his title on the line. This was his tweet:

“What do u say @thenotoriusmma? Balls in your court. Now let’s see who has a Vagina.”

Well if the reports are true, it looks like Edgar and dos Anjos would have to wait a while.
