Holly Holm didn’t get the rematch of her choice with Miesha Tate. Holly Holm, in fact, has been sidelined from UFC’s blockbuster event on July 9. So does this mean that she has been reserved for a possible rematch with Ronda Rousey? Is Ronda Rousey-Holly Holm rematch happening soon?
At least Holm thinks so.
In Monday’s edition of The MMA Hour, Holly Holm said that it is possible that UFC might be thinking of a Ronda Rousey-Holly Holm rematch when Rousey returns.
“It’s very possible,” Holm said. “I don’t know what their real thinking is, but they’re obviously a successful business for a reason. They’re a successful promotion. They usually have their reasons behind everything.”
“Who knows? Maybe they’ll put Ronda and I together and the winner of that goes for the belt,” she added.
Ronda Rousey is on a break from the Octagon after her UFC 193 loss. Holly Holm defeated Rousey in a surprising feat making it Rousey’s first MMA career loss. Since then, fans have waited eagerly for a Ronda Rousey-Holly Holm rematch.
Rousey meanwhile, went on to fulfill her movie commitments and Holm went on to fight Miesha Tate at UFC 196. Surprisingly, Holm lost to Tate by fifth-round submission to win the women’s bantamweight title. Holm, in fact, was left unconscious by Tate’s near-naked choke.
At the moment, though, Holm is only interested in focusing on her training whoever the opponent may be.
“I’ll be ready either way,” Holm said. “If I rematch with Ronda, I’m gonna train my butt off. If I rematch with Tate, I’m gonna train my butt off. If they give me one of the other top girls in the meantime, I’m gonna train my butt off.”
“I feel like at this point, not having the rematch, which is what I really wanted, I kind of just changed my train of thought to just be open to whatever. I don’t want to be so focused on that that if something else comes my way that I don’t take advantage of the opportunity.”
