With just a month away from the UFC Sao Paulo event, Alexander Gustafsson reportedly backed out in the main event and will be replaced by Ryan Bader.
According to MMA Fighting, Gustafsson is out of the main event against Antonio Rogerio Nogueira due to an undisclosed injury. A rematch between Nogueira and Bader will headline the main event instead.
Bader won their first meeting via unanimous decision at UFC 119 in 2010.
No. 7 ranked, Ryan Bader, (21-5) came from a five-fight winning streak until his defeat from Anthony ‘Rumble’ Johnson in January. Bader got back from that loss and showed an improved Bader when he pulled off a convincing knockout win over Ilir Latifi in September.
Nogueira (22-7) is also looking to get his second win this year after getting a first-round TKO victory against Patrick Cummins at UFC 198 in May. Before Cummins, the Brazilian Nogueira suffered from a two-fight skid to Johnson and Mauricio ‘Shogun’ Rua.
Meanwhile, Gustafsson (17-4), who gave an impressive performance against Jon Jones in a title fight, beat Jan Blachowicz in Germany via unanimous decision to snap a two-fight losing streak of his own.
Sources reported that the three UFC stars are all trying to get back into discussions for a possible UFC light heavyweight title shot. Aside from a rematch win, a battle between Ryan Bader and Nogueira will define who will step up to get another shot at the title.
UFC Fight Night 100 will take place in Sao Paulo, Brazil on Nov. 19.
