While most reports all pointing to a possible Conor McGregor vs Eddie Alvarez main event for the UFC lightweight championship on Nov. 12 at the Madison Square Garden in New York, UFC boss Dana White, however, wants a different headliner. Apparently, White wants a Conor McGregor vs Jose Aldo 2 and it seems likely that it would happen.
According to Pundit Arena, after McGregor’s win over Diaz last month, an apparent foot and sheen injury was reportedly sustained by the featherweight king during the fight and that it would jeopardize any chances of him fighting at UFC 205.
However, it looks like McGregor has been looking fit lately and the UFC boss confirmed The Notorious’ availability for another main event.
During an interview, White also cleared the issues about McGregor carrying an injury.
“Conor’s foot is hurt, but he thinks he can fight. I want him to fight Aldo.”
According to Sports Joe, McGregor’s preferred fight was with Eddie Alvarez in the lightweight division but now being urged to defend his featherweight belt which he acquired from beating Aldo last year.
Based on rankings and White’s assessments, Alvarez, will now be facing no. 1 lightweight contender and Russian fighter Khabib Nurmagomedov.
“Alvarez wants to fight McGregor, because it’s an easy fight and it’s a lot of money to fight him,” Nurmagomedov said. “But he has to fight me. Dana White has told me, ‘He is fighting you. He has to fight you.’ His record is only 2-1 in the UFC and he loses like a chicken to Cowboy [Cerrone]. How did he even get a title shot? I don’t know why he is so scared to fight me.”
It seems as though White’s decision of a Conor McGregor vs Jose Aldo 2 fight will likely happen since the promotion’s New York debut is expected to be a blockbuster.
