On UFC Fight Night 84, Gegard Mousasi made it look easy by beating Thales Lietes convincingly via unanimous decision.
With his performance, Mousasi is confident enough to say that he is one of the best fighters in the middleweight division.
“I think I showed that I’m top-five at least, even though the rankings say maybe I’m (No. 9).”
“I’m coming back,” as Mousasi drops the mike jokingly.
More so, he believes that the performance tops Bisping’s fight over Leites.
“I dominated him; I think Michael Bisping had a very difficult fight with him,” he said. “I didn’t have any difficulties with him. Last fight, I took chances and I paid for that.”
As technically sound as Mousasi is, some MMA fans consider him boring for not being too much engaging. He acknowledges this and insists that he fights to win, not to win the crowd.
“I could have gone and taken unnecessary chances and lose because I want to please the crowd,” Mousasi said. “They don’t pay the bills – well, maybe, I don’t know. But, who cares, give me some good names and maybe then I’ll get fired up.”
Convinced with his performance, he then calls out a foe that he always wanted to fight.
“Vitor Belfort, I’ve been chasing that guy for a long time,” said Mousasi. “Obviously, if I fight the way I want, I can beat these guys,” he said. “I think I did a very good job.”
