UFC Rumor: CM Punk-Mickey Gall fight to be listed in UFC 202?

WWE superstar CM Punk will finally make his debut this fall as rumors are swirling that he will take on Mickey Gall in the much talked about the fight that will be listed part of UFC 202 in Las Vegas.

Punk has always wanted to be part of something big in the UFC wherein he could come back at his critics and the rematch featuring Conor McGregor against Nate Diaz has given him the needed platform for his debut. According to FloSports managing editor, Jeremy Botter, noted that the Punk-Gall fight will be featured as one of the undercards for the much-anticipated rematch wherein McGregor aims to bounce back from his stunning UFC 196 loss to Diaz.

“Oh. And CM Punk vs. Mickey Gall is targeted for August 20. Same night as Diaz/McGregor. Hope I didn’t ruin any announcements,” Botter said.

Dave Meltzer, the editor of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter and writer for MMAFighting.com, stated that FOX Sports 1 has a multiple-part documentary on Punk’s UFC debut scheduled to air leading up to August, indicating that he could be part of the UFC 202 card.

Punk had to delay his training several times due to back and shoulder injuries, which he got during his WWE days. He was set for a UFC debut back in 2015 but had a hard time adjusting to the MMA and got himself injured. He was later set for a UFC 199 match against Gall but the fight was put on hold anew as he underwent a back surgery in Feb. that further halted his UFC debut as doctors advised a long period for him to recover.

Punk has stated that he is closely working with his doctors about his condition and with the things are going he is said to be ready for action this fall and that could lead to a fight with Gall finally at UFC 202.

“I’ve learned from my past mistakes and I’m not going to say a date that everyone’s gonna get married to, and then I’m going to have to hear about how I’m never going to fight. I’m going to fight. It’s going to be this year. And like I said, I see the doctor tomorrow, and I’m going to talk with him about all kinds of other extracurricular things I can do to probably speed this along…see if I can start doing acupuncture again, things like that,” Punk said to Ariel Helwani during an interview on The MMA Hour.

Now that he is on the road to recovery, Gall is hoping that things would go as a plan so that they can go over his business with Punk inside the Octagon. For Punk, he is aiming for an upset to earn the respect of the rest of the fighters inside the UFC locker room.
