Former UFC women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey expressed her intention to be back in the Octagon and reclaim the title held by Amanda Nunes. There are speculations that ‘Rowdy’ could fight the winner between Holly Holm and Amanda Nunes if ever the UFC sets them up.
Recalling at UFC 193, Ronda Rousey experienced her first defeat with Holly Holm. ‘Rowdy’ failed to establish a ground fight and had no answer to Holm’s superior striking. A high kick to the neck in the second round ended Rousey’s three-year reign as a champion.
The victory gave Holly Holm the ‘Upset of the Year’ award at the ESPYs last week. However, Holm failed to defend her title and lost to Miesha Tate. Tate was then defeated by Amanda Nunes at UFC 200. Ronda Rousey, Holly Holm, and Julianna Pena are listed as the possible opponent of Nunes for her first title defense.
“I’m the champion now,” she said. “Whatever Dana White puts it front of me, I’m going to take it.”
Ronda Rousey is still undecided on when she will fight again in the Octagon. However, UFC president Dana White confirmed that Rousey will face whoever the champion is when she returns.
“Yeah, Ronda’s going to make that decision,” White said during UFC 200’s post-event show on FS1. “Hopefully – I would like to see her fight this year, but it could be early next year too. Whoever the champion is at the time is who Ronda would fight.”
Meanwhile, Holly Holm will strengthen her chance for a title shot if she will defeat Valentina Shevchenko in UFC on FOX 20’s headliner on July 23.On the other hand, Julianna Pena believed that her victory against former title challenger Cat Zingano will also give her the chance to fight the champion.
However, it seems like their faith will be defending upon Rousey’s decision. If she returns to the Octagon soon, she will be the one fighting Amanda Nunes. If not, Holly Holm will much likely get the chance if she wins his next fight. Unfortunately for Julianna Pena, she can only fight for the title if the two former champions are not available.
Ronda Rousey said in an interview that she wants her belt back. If she really wants to bring back everything that she lost, she must consider having her rematch against Holly Holm first. There are speculations that Rousey will be returning early next year.
There is a possibility that Holly Holm and Amanda Nunes have already fought by that time. If Holm regains the title, Ronda Rousey’s return to the Octagon will surely be the most-awaited fight in the history of women’s MMA.
