National League ERA leader Brandon Beachy going to the DL
Atlanta Braves pitcher Brandon Beachy is going to the disabled list.
According to Sporting News, Beachy left Saturday’s start against the Baltimore Orioles with a elbow injury. He was officially placed on the disabled list yesterday. Beachy, who leads the major leagues with a 2.00 earned-run average, will have a MRI exam Monday. Beachy said Sunday he has had bone spurs in the elbow. He also said he didn’t feel a pop in the elbow, so he hopes the soreness was caused by the spurs instead of a ligament issue that could lead to season-ending surgery.
Atlanta Braves manager Freddi Gonzalez stated the following:
“I don’t expect the worst [from Beachy's MRI]. I expect in 15 days he’ll be ready to go,There are plenty of pitchers who have pitched with (bone spurs). That will settle down a little bit.”
According to the Ledger-Enquier, Jair Jurrjens will replace Beachy in the starting rotation. Jurrjens is trying to save his career as he was banished from the rotation after having two horrible outings earlier in the season. In the first half last season he was one of the best pitchers in the National League going 12-3 with a 1.87 ERA but was plagued by injury.
Beachy leads the National League with a 2.00 ERA even though he has a 5-5 record.
