NBA Finals: Kevin Love expected to come off the bench in Game 4

Kevin Love is expected to return in Game 4 of the NBA Finals on Friday, but more likely in a bench role as revealed by the league sources.

Love still needs to get through another medical test on Friday to clear himself from the NBA’s concussion protocol. But he took part in some on-court shooting drill Thursday, after which the Cavs‘ management is privately confident that Love will be able to play on Friday night.

The Cavs posted a thumping win over the Warriors in Game 3 to cut the margin in the series without Kevin Love. Lue introduced Richard Jefferson in the starting lineup and moved LeBron James to power forward and the Cavs dished out their best show of this final series.

Cavs‘ head coach Tyronn Lue said that it’s important to be honest when asked about how he figures out line-up changes.

“They might not like it at the time, but I’ve always learned in this business if you tell the truth, guys understand and they know what the truth is,” Lue said, as reported by the Beacon Journal. “They might be mad for a second, but they can always get back to understanding and realize that’s the right thing. And if you tell the truth, guys can respect that.”

Love is open to the idea of a reserve role in the Finals, according to a source. Cavs‘ team management hope that bringing Love off the bench can take some pressure off the star power forward. Love signed a five-year, $110 million deal last summer with Cleveland.

LeBron James neutralized Warriors’ Draymond Green to throttle the reigning champions. Green though didn’t find any difference with James as a power forward instead of Love.

“There ain’t no Xs and Os adjustment they made that worked. They punked us. That was the gist of it,” Green said. “I continually try to figure out, what adjustment can they make?”
