NBA Rumors: Phil Jackson and company eyeing to re-sign Sasha Vujacic after losing Langston Galloway to Pelicans?

Phil Jackson and the New York Knicks have signed big names like Derrick Rose, Courtney Lee and Joakim Noah this summer. Now the Knicks’ president is eyeing for a cheaper and familiar option- Sasha Vujacic.

The Knicks are interested in bringing back Sasha Vujacic on a minimum contract. Vujacic returned to NBA after spending 3 seasons in Europe in 2015 summer and earned the status of a starter at the shooting guard position in New York.

With combo guard Langston Galloway leaving for New Orleans Pelicans, New York wants to secure the services of Vujacic, according to Marc Berman of New York Post. But the Knicks can only offer Vujacic a veteran’s minimum contract worth $1.6 million.

It’s unclear whether the shooting guard will get a better deal elsewhere or not. The 32-year-old is a former Los Angeles Lakers’ sharpshooter who had a poor beginning last season. He started in the first seven games replacing injured Arron Afflalo. Vujacic became the regular starter for the rest of the season after former coach Kurt Rambis then benched Afflalo in mid-March.

Phil Jackson coached Vujacic for five years with the Lakers. The Knicks’ president of basketball operations prefers the shooting guard due to his familiarity with the triangle offense.

The Knicks are looking to rope in another shooting guard in addition to the newly recruited Justin Holiday. Vujacic defended better last season than he stroked the ball. But he notched up double figure scores in five games in April.
