NBA Rumors: Al Horford wants to stay with Atlanta Hawks

The Atlanta Hawks got swept in their second-round matchup against the Cleveland Cavaliers. Another exit at the hands of the Cavaliers has left the Hawks with a lot of questions heading into the offseason.

The Hawks will have a big decision to make regarding the future of their star center Al Horford, who will be a free agent this summer. According to the latest NBA rumors, Horford is interested in going back to Atlanta and sign a max contract with them.

“I’ve set up here with my family. We all live here. We live here in the summer. We live here year-round. I’m very grateful for all the people here. They have taken me in from the very first day, even though I was a Gator. They loved me. I really love the city,” Horford told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Even though there is a chance that he will leave the Hawks, the team has the money to sign him to a five-year contract. However, Horford wants to meet with the coaches and front office members first to talk about the team’s future and if they are going to make moves to improve the team.

“We just had a tough loss. My main priority tomorrow is to meet with the team and the coaches one last time (for the season) and go from there and figure out how we can be a better group,” Horford said.

The Hawks drafted Horford with the third overall pick in the 2007 NBA draft behind Greg Oden and Kevin Durant. Since being selecting the former Florida Gator, the Hawks has never missed the playoffs but they have never made it past the Eastern Conference Finals.

Some of the teams linked with Horford besides the Hawks are the Boston Celtics, Brooklyn Nets and Los Angeles Lakers.
