NBA Rumors: Anthony Bennett eyeing redemption by joining Jeremy Lin in Brooklyn?

The Toronto Raptors have waived Anthony Bennett after one year of service with the team. This is the second consecutive summer, Bennett is looking for a team to script a comeback.

The Canada native was the first overall pick in the NBA 2013 draft. The Brooklyn Nets have shown some interest in the forward. The Nets’ new general manager Sean Marks made some bold moves in this free agency. Brooklyn added star point guard Jeremy Lin in free agency.

Bennett is trying to get his career back on track after featuring as a starter for the Canadian national team in the Olympic qualifiers, according to Sam Henken of ESPN. Canada has been just one win away from earning a berth in the Rio Olympics.

Why Anthony Bennett?

Bennett was considered as the worst No. 1 overall pick in the league’s recent history by some experts. But the forward and the Brooklyn Nets appear to have a mutual interest in signing a deal, pointed out Michael Scotto of Sheridan Hoops.

Bennett visited a Nets’ veteran camp to improve his fitness.

The Nets have added forward Trevor Booker to their roster this off-season but are looking to add depth behind forward Chris McCullough. The front-office thinks Bennett could be the right man for the job.

The Nets have the roster space to sign Bennett after they struck out with restricted free agents Tyler Johnson and Allen Crabbe. Brooklyn continues to rebuild, it’s a new challenge for Anthony Bennett to prove his mettle in the league.
