NBA Rumors: Can Pat Riley bring Kevin Durant to Miami Heat?

Kevin Durant may host Miami Heat president Pat Riley once he starts meeting the rival NBA teams to hear free agent proposals on July 1.

Representatives of Kevin Durant at Roc Nation are working to solidify the invitations with the Miami Heat, Boston Celtics and Los Angeles Clippers, according to a report.

The Golden State Warriors, San Antonio Spurs and Oklahoma City Thunder have already secured a personal meeting with Durant. The 27-year-old All-star is expected to host meetings in New York, but the teams are awaiting a decision on the final location.

The Denver Nuggets, New York Knicks, Los Angeles Lakers, Houston Rockets and Washington Wizards also have interest in Durant, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of the Vertical.

The Warriors have Durant’s attention but his current team, the OKC Thunder remain the frontrunners to re-sign the All-star on a one-plus-one year contract.

Durant is also expected to have a face-to-face meeting with Pat Riley of Miami Heat.

“Why wouldn’t any free agent want to meet with Pat, if even to just pick his brain?” A source said familiar with Miami’s approach to free agency.

The franchise will enter free agency with $43 million in salary cap space, which makes them a potential bidder for the 27-year-old superstar. But Heat has to address the impending free agency of Hassan Whiteside and Dwyane Wade, as reports the Sun Senital.

Center Whiteside is expected to attract a maximum contract of $22 million per season. If Pat Riley sticks to his point of retaining the free agent center is the franchise’s priority, there is no chance for Miami to acquire Kevin Durant.
