NBA Rumors: Clippers acquiring Russell Westbrook for Blake Griffin suggested; J.J. Redick also involved in possible deal

The departure of Kevin Durant will likely result to a Russell Westbrook trade as the Oklahoma City Thunder tries to avoid losing another superstar for nothing. According to the latest NBA rumors, one of the teams that could acquire Westbrook is the Los Angeles Clippers.

Tony Webb of Sir Charles In Charge suggested that the Thunder trade Westbrook and Enes Kanter to the Clippers for Blake Griffin, J.J. Redick and C.J. Wilcox. He pointed out that it will be a homecoming for both Westbrook and Griffin.

Westbrook is from Long Beach, California and he went to UCLA while Griffin is an Oklahoma City native. However, it should be noted that this is a just mere suggestion. Even if the trade was made, it will likely fail to work for the Clippers.

Kanter is a big downgrade from Griffin and Westbrook is not a great shooter. They also have Chris Paul at the point, a position that Westbrook plays. Paul would need to have shooters at the wings to maximize his playmaking ability.

But Webb noted that the duo would be interesting to watch and it brings the Warriors-Clippers rivalry to a higher level. Westbrook playing for the Clippers against Durant in a Warriors uniform is a must-watch basketball game.

On the other hand, the Thunder would want to negotiate with Westbrook first and try to convince him to sign a contract extension. However, KOCO.com reports that the 27-year-old guard doesn’t want to negotiate or extend his deal with Oklahoma City.

Now, Westbrook has not demanded a trade but it would be smart for the Thunder to trade him now rather than at next season’s deadline. He has more value at this very moment compared to next season when teams know that they would give up a lot for a half-a-season rental.
