NBA Rumors: DeMarcus Cousins to Chicago? Bulls aiming to build their own version of ‘Super Team’

Rumors and speculations are now swirling around the Chicago Bulls who are reportedly interested in trading for DeMarcus Cousins of the Sacramento Kings. Will ‘Boogie’ finally join his favorite teammate, Rajon Rondo in Chicago?

The Chicago Bulls succeeded to rebuild their roster this offseason. They made their first move by trading Derrick Rose, Justin Holiday and 2017 second-round pick to the New York Knicks for Robin Lopez, Jose Calderon, and Jerian Grant.

In the recent free agency, the Chicago Bulls succeeded to acquire Rajon Rondo as Derrick Rose’s replacement. Also, Dwyane Wade, a Chicago native, unexpectedly left the Miami Heat and joined the Chicago Bulls. The acquisition of Rondo and Wade created the question on how they will be fitted to the ‘Jimmy Butler’ team.

However, Rondo and Wade admitted that they have no intention to take away the spotlight from Jimmy Butler. The offseason moves by the Chicago Bulls proved that they wanted to build around Butler. However, their current roster is still questionable to match the reigning Eastern Conference champions, Cleveland Cavaliers.

There are speculations that the Chicago Bulls are interested in bringing DeMarcus Cousins in their team. The 25-year-old big man is reportedly ‘unhappy’ with the offseason plan of the Sacramento Kings starting in the NBA draft night.

In the 2016 NBA draft, the Sacramento Kings traded the 8th overall pick to Phoenix Suns for a package that included the 13th and 28th picks. The Kings selected 7-foot-1 Georgios Papagiannis and 6-foot-11 Skal Labissiere. After hearing the news, DeMarcus Cousins expressed his disappointment on Twitter.

“I can’t control [the draft decisions],” Cousins said. “I control what I can control. I don’t really understand it, but I do my job.”

Clearly, no one was buying the Kings’ offseason plan and even their own players don’t understand what they’re doing. With their current roster, the Kings are poised to miss the playoffs for another year and they have no young player with a lot of potentials.

The Chicago Bulls are one of the teams who can fix the Kings’ dilemma. The Bulls have lots of young talented players who could certainly catch the Kings’ interest. Doug McDermott, Nikola Mirotic, Bobby Portis, Denzel Valentine, and Jerian Grant could be potential trade assets to acquire DeMarcus Cousins.

DeMarcus Cousins is currently one of the best big men in the league. However, staying in Sacramento won’t help him achieve his goal. Last season, Cousins had his best season and Rajon Rondo was undeniably one of the major reasons.

If the Chicago Bulls succeed to acquire DeMarcus Cousins, they will surely have a chance to battle against the best teams in the Eastern Conference. The offseason has still a long way to go and such things can happen until the 2016-17 NBA season officially starts.
