NBA Rumors: Derrick Rose to miss season, suspended by Knicks due to gang rape case?

Could Derrick Rose miss the season for the New York Knicks because of his rape case? The Knicks point guard’s sexual assault case will be on trial on October 4, which is when the NBA pre-season begins.

More info on the rape controversy was revealed after details of the case were made available to the public by various reports.

According to court documents, Rose’s accuser, who remains anonymous for the public, is seeking $21.5 million in damages. The trial is expected to begin in 2017.

Lindsay Gibbs of Think Progress has the details of the Derrick Rose gang rape case, including what was exposed from court documents.

“This is not a rape case. It’s pure and simple extortion by a plaintiff who wants to hide behind the cloak of anonymity while seeking millions in damages from a celebrity with whom she was in a long-term non-exclusive consensual sexual relationship,” Rose’s lawyers contends in one document.

This is Rose’s primary defense in the gang rape case by going after her character and that the sex was consensual.

Also reviewed in the court documents are text messages between Rose and the alleged victim, which could be vital in deciding if a rape happened or it was consensual sex. Also involved are two of Rose’s close friends, Randall Hampton and Ryan Allen.

The Knicks acquired Rose in a trade with the Chicago Bulls in the 2016 off-season. NBA rumors of Rose missing the season are premature at this point and the team has not addressed the issue yet publicly. If Derrick Rose is found guilty in the gang rape case, there is a possibility that the Knicks suspend their starting point guard.
