There are NBA rumors that the Golden State Warriors will go after Hassan Whiteside, the top free agent big man in the market, this 2016 offseason. However, his previous social media beef with Warriors forward Draymond Green could be a factor as the Miami Heat big man decides about where to play next in his career.
Sometime earlier this year, Whiteside commented on the Warriors and their “smallball” and how big centers like him can dominate the match-up against smaller big men:
“Small ball only works on centers that can’t score #factsonly I wish you would put Someone that 6’6 on me #careerhigh #highschooldays” Whiteside posted on Twitter in August.
The outspoken Green did not let it pass and responded to Whiteside’s post:
“Can you score doe? Bigs becoming dinosaurs.” Greed replied.
On Friday, there were NBA rumors that the Warriors are looking to add a big man in free agency with names liked Al Horford, Joakim Noah and Whiteside linked to the team that lost the NBA Finals in the recently concluded season.
The Warriors have eight free agents this summer and it looks like they will prioritize veteran Shaun Livingston but are still considering what to do with Festus Ezeli and Harrison Barnes, who could move to other teams this offseason if they get a large contract offer.
Whiteside is also linked to other teams like the Dallas Mavericks, Portland Trail Blazers, New York Knicks and Houston Rockets.
The Warriors lost to the Cleveland Cavaliers in seven games in the 2016 NBA Finals but they might have salary cap space to offer one max contract to a top free agent this summer. The NBA rumors have the team linked to Kevin Durant but they can also go after a Hassan Whiteside, who will improve their rebounding and defense in the front court.
