NBA Rumors: Hawks-Bulls trade sends Jimmy Butler, Taj Gibson to Atlanta and Paul Millsap, Kyle Korver to Chicago

The Chicago Bulls appears to be set for the 2016-2017 NBA Season after they acquired star veterans in free agency. However, new NBA rumors have come out this week about the possibility of Jimmy Butler moving to Chicago in exchange for Paul Millsap from the Atlanta Hawks.

Tyler Sellers from soaringdownsouth.com first suggested how the Hawks could acquire Butler, who now may be a bad fit with the Bulls because of the “isolation” type of offensive players in Chicago. The Bulls were very active in the 2016 offseason acquiring Dwyane Wade and Rajon Rondo in free agency.

Sellers adds that if the Bulls want a change in their roster, Millsap will be a good option for Chicago as they can pair him in the frontcourt with Robin Lopez and have a more balanced roster on offense.

From the needs of both teams, it looks like the Bulls and Hawks are perfect trade partners if they want to improve next season and also become financially flexible in their team salary cap.

One trade that works under ESPN’s Trade Checker is this Chicago-Atlanta deal, which sends Butler and Taj Gibson to the Hawks and Millsap and Korver going to the Bulls.

For Atlanta, they will improve their perimeter defense with the presence of Butler and Bazemore and new starting guard Dennis Schroeder. Gibson will also form a nice defensive frontcourt with free agent acquisition Dwight Howard. Butler has four years left in his deal but he’s a franchise player and the Hawks can surround him with talent in the next few years.

For Chicago, they will have the Lopez-Millsap front court and adds three-point shooting from Korver to open up space for Wade and Rondo to operate the offense. The Bulls will also be acquiring the short-term contracts of Korver and Millsap it fits with the short-term deals given to Wade and Rondo.

These NBA rumors can only happen if both the Hawks and Bulls think they don’t have a shot at beating LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers with their current line-up.

It’s more likely that Chicago and Atlanta stay put this offseason and see first how it goes in the regular season. But if they start to struggle early, they might consider deals involving their key players.

How do the Bulls benefit? Millsap is 31, and averages 17pts. Good, but not great.

Justin Gloria, you’re an idiot, this will NEVER happen doesn’t make any sense for Chicago!
