NBA Rumors: Hawks to let go of Teague, Horford and go hard at Durant after embarrassing sweep to the Cavs?

Both Jeff Teague and Al Horford were involved in NBA rumors near the trade deadline this season. Both names will again be in the headlines this offseason as the Atlanta Hawks suffered an embarrassing sweep at the hands of the Cleveland Cavaliers in the Eastern Conference semifinals in the 2016 NBA Playoffs.

The Hawks might even be regretting that they did not trade either Teague or Horford earlier in the season as they have once again come up short against LeBron James and the Cavs, who has dominated their franchise in the postseason the last few years.

Near the trade deadline back in February, there were rumors that the Hawks were willing to deal Horford to the Boston Celtics. Teague was also rumored to be part of deals to various teams, including the New York Knicks. The Hawks decided to stick with the pair and now thinking if they did the right thing as they come up short of their targets in the postseason.

The bad situation for the Hawks continues as Horford will now be available in the market as an unrestricted free agent, which means they could lose him for nothing if another squad swoops in and try to steal their big man.

Teague has one year left in his deal, at $8 million next season, and he could be a good trade bait if the Hawks want to rebuild for the future. Both situation will make for an interesting offseason for the Hawks as they deal with NBA rumors about both.

Like other NBA franchises next season, the Hawks will have money to chase a top free agent, like Kevin Durant from the Oklahoma City Thunder. Under contract for next year are Teague, Paul Millsap, Kyle Korver, Thabo Sefalosha and Dennis Shcroder so if they can resign Horford they still have the same core enough to contend for a playoff spot.

However, as the 2016 NBA Playoffs showed, the Hawks just doesn’t have a go-to-guy or talent to beat the likes of the LeBron James and the Cavaliers. NBA rumors will surround this franchise this summer as the Hawks try to add one more big name to make them a real powerhouse team in the Eastern Conference.
